Climb Kilimanjaro
More details about Climb Kilimanjaro.
Its snow-capped peak towers over the surrounding Savannah and is located in Kilimanjaro National Park, which is home to a rich mix of flora and animals. Even though it is a dormant volcano, it continues to inspire climbers and outdoor enthusiasts from all over the world.
Climb Kilimanjaro: A Journey Through Time and Ice
Kilimanjaro is made up of three volcanic cones: Kibo, 19,340 feet (5895 meters), Mawenzi, 16,896 feet (5149 meters), and Shira, 13,000 feet (3962 meters). Uhuru Peak is the highest point on Kibo’s crater rim.
Kilimanjaro Mountain is a large stratovolcano produced a million years ago when lava erupted in the Rift Valley zone. Two of its three peaks, Mawenzi and Shira, are extinct, while Kibo (the highest peak) is dormant and may erupt again.
The most recent activity was recorded around 200 years ago, with the last large eruption occurring 360,000 years ago. Kilimanjaro contains 2.2 square kilometres (0.85 square miles) of glacier ice, which is melting quickly due to climate change. Glaciers have decreased by 82% since 1912, and 33% since 1989. It might be ice-free in 20 years, significantly affecting local drinking water and farmland irrigation.
