More information about Climb Mount Kilimanjaro
Kilimanjaro is made up of three volcanic cones: Shira at 13,000 feet (3962 meters), Kibo at 19,340 feet (5895 meters), and Mawenzi at 16,896 feet (5149 meters). The tallest peak on Kibo’s crater rim is known as Uhuru Peak.
Mount Kilimanjaro, a massive stratovolcano, was built a million years ago when lava erupted from the Rift Valley zone. Mawenzi and Shira, two of its three peaks, are extinct, but Kibo, the highest peak, is dormant and might erupt again.
The most recent activity was documented about 200 years ago, whereas the last significant eruption occurred 360,000 years ago. Kilimanjaro contains 2.2 square kilometres (0.85 square miles) of glacier ice, which is rapidly melting owing to climate change. Glaciers have receded by 82% since 1912 and 33% since 1989. It might be ice-free within 20 years, hurting local drinking water and farmland irrigation.
