At Masatu Tours, we believe climbing Kilimanjaro is more than a summit, it's a week-long journey through Africa's most extraordinary landscapes. The Northern Circuit is our favorite route for guests who want space, spectacular panoramas, and the best possible acclimatization. As the newest and longest of the eight established routes, it gives you the rare privilege of seeing Mount Kilimanjaro from all four sides while moving at a relaxed, steady pace. Check out our guide to the best time to climb Kilimanjaro to plan your expedition.
You'll spend eight to nine days journeying from lush montane forests through heath and moorland into high-altitude desert and finally the glacier-fringed summit zones. Along the way, dense tropical canopy opens to reveal strange and beautiful high-altitude plants like Dendrosenecio kilimanjari, volcanic panoramas, and sweeping views of the African savannah and the Kenyan plains. The gradual ascent profile makes this route excellent for high-altitude trekking and minimizing altitude-related challenges.
The Northern Circuit is ideal for adventurers seeking the ultimate Kilimanjaro experience with maximum acclimatization, minimal crowds, and the most comprehensive views of Africa's highest peak. See how it measures up against the other seven trails in our complete Kilimanjaro route guide.
8-9 day itinerary offers the best acclimatization and summit success probability.
Experience solitude and pristine wilderness away from the busy southern routes.
The only route that circles the entire mountain for unmatched panoramas.
Explore the wild northern side rarely seen by most climbers.
Northern Circuit is our favourite for explorers. Its full 360° traverse and excellent acclimatization profile make it the top choice for climbers who want solitude, varied scenery, and the highest chance of summit success.
The standard Northern Circuit is most commonly offered as an 8-day itinerary. If you can add an extra rest or acclimatization day, do so, the gentler pacing materially improves summit outcomes.
The 8-day Northern Circuit balances slow, steady gains with superb viewpoints and remote camping. It’s our recommendation for most clients who prioritise acclimatisation and scenery over speed.
For experienced trekkers who want more time on the mountain, we can extend the route with additional acclimatisation or cultural stops. Contact us to tailor the schedule to your fitness and goals.
The circuit takes you to northern slopes and vistas rarely seen on other routes, with long stretches of solitude and wide panoramas across the region.
